The Next Adventure Begins

We are starting our voyage on another Litrenta adventure. On May 18th (wow, that is closer then I thought) we will be the proud parents of 8 little chicks...yes, baby chickens...live ones. We will have 4 Australorps: (adult)

We are also getting 4 Barred Plymouth Rocks, white ones....

We are all so excited. Andy has been working hard on a chicken coop and has done an AMAZING job on it. They will live, at first, in a dog crate with a heating lamp. Then when they are old enough they will move into the coop outside.

Why do we want chickens? We are raising them for eggs (but i know they will become pets also). We already get eggs from a friend who has a farm. They are the best eggs ever. So, we decided to give chicken raising a try. Of course this means they will all be females...no roosters. Roosters are very loud. Roosters don't just cockadoodledo in the morning!!

I will soon be posting pictures of the coop that is being built. Actually it is almost done, just needs some coats of paint and then the roof!
